A MODERN AND EASY WAY TO AIR CHECK
YOUR FAVORITE SHOWS
In addition to recording some of these shows
in the studio, like most of you, I too set up a tuner and a
cassette deck.
Twenty years later, I'm sitting with a stack of poorly
labeled old cassettes, and looking at hours of production time
to digitize them.
Let me share with you a VERY easy and inexpensive way to record
your favorite shows today.
Mac users, sorry, I can't
help ya. PC users, visit:

Download and install TOTAL
RECORDER Standard Edition. It costs $11.95. Once
set-up, it's totally automatic. You can program Total
Recorder to start and stop at certain times just like TIVO.
Files can be saved and archived in whatever format you'd like.
Total Recorder uses your standard audio card and can record
external sources such as a radio. It will also record
internet shows feeds as well.
Of course, it can also be used to convert all those tapes you've
saved into MP3 files.
Trust me, I've looked at numerous
options for doing this, this is the cheapest and most efficient
way to do so. I use Adobe Audition and Pro-Tools for production
purposes, however, Total Recorder is the best utility for air
checking purposes.
If you have any questions about setting up or using Total
Recorder, e-mail me.
Radio Producers:
This also is a GREAT idea if you are a show producer (music
or talk) and you're constantly getting air check requests from
Account Executives. Bribe your engineer to give you a
direct feed from your board, not an air feed, that way you can
use the files for creating studio quality "Best Of" segments.
Total Recorder has a feature that easily allows you to isolate
and save individual files from within the original recording.
I already have a commitment from one local producer to name his
first-born male-child after me for sharing this information!
